I picked up a fair amount of Winchester 22 Auto ammunition. I’m going to keep some and sell some. This does not seem to be common stuff. I can’t find much for pricing. The Winchester manufactured stuff was on 2 ends of the spectrum. I found 2 examples, both better condition than mine. One fella was asking $250 for a single box and the other was @ 11.00 with 3 days left on auction. Here they are:
3 boxes of Winchester 22 Auto, Winchester manufactured. All boxes are opened, 2 full and 1 is missing one round. If I am reading the date code correctly I believe it to be March 1920
Four boxes US cartridge Co. 2 boxes sealed and 2boxes opened (both full)
Seven boxes US cartridge Co. 5 sealed and 2 opened (full) 1926 Manufacture
Then there is these 2 guys, I thought the Sears Roebuck & Co. price tag of 34 cents is pretty neat.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Erin
FWIW I went to two auctions recently that had sizeable vintage ammo lots.
Two of your examples were sold at that auction. The first lot you have I believe is the 1914 issue.
There were two boxes, one full, one with I believe 24 pcs, that realized 85.00 for both.
The second example of US cart Co. two boxes again 52.50.
The last photo I would imagine Ten dollars per…

When you do decide, I would like a crack at an unopened box of the US Cartridge Co. Thanks, Big Larry
Erin, according to the Winchester Two-Piece 22 Boxes book by Richard Raines and Dan Shuey the Win Auto boxes have a rarity factory of R-2. R-5 is the rarest. These are of the 1914 issue and are dated June of 1915/March 1920. The book lists an email [email protected]. My book is about 12 years old so hopefully the email is still good. No pricing is listed in the book.
Erin look here. Remember you have early boxes but not the highest condition. https://www.wardscollectibles.com/viewitem.php?item=2068
Thanks a bunch Chuck,
I did locate some early US 22WRF’s and Long rifle. I was surprised at the price of the WRF ammo and it does have a bid. Valuation was 800-3000. The 22 long rifle was still $50 per box. It may pay to list a box through Wards and see where it goes……..

Best,
Erin
Edit: That might not work either, Wards requires items to be “excellent” condition. I believe my US cartridge boxes are of the good-very good category.
