I think I’ve learned as much as I can with out reaching out and asking for some help about my 1890 wfr model 2 Winchester.I can figure out if it’s case should be case hardened or blued I know the hardened came first but I believe my gun falls funny and my eye is extremely untrained.

What is the serial number on your Model 1890? That will tell us when it was manufactured. Winchester ceased color case hardening the Model 1890 receiver frames in August of 1901.

That tells us that it was manufactured in early June 1899, and that it was originally case color finished.

As a non WACA member, your only option to post pictures is to use a photo host website, that post a link (URL) to where you have the pictures stored.

If you go to the top of the website look under resources.  This is where you can find what year your gun was made.  The Cody Museum has all of the Winchester records.  That is where this site gets it’s info.  Bert has spent weeks going through the actual records too.
