Anyone know the approx. serial number range they started the grooved receiver on the M63? Seems that they started well after 1954. Mine is # 158486 and most I have seen are in the #17xxxx range. Just bought it, and it is very close to mint. Around 99%. Thanks, Big Larry

From my VERY limited data sample:
148660 and 153065 are grooved.
153829, 156461 and 156634 are NOT grooved.
So far, 158261 and higher are all grooved.

I have no barrel dates; all I have been recording is if the receiver is grooved or not.

Looks like Winchester used up old receivers after the grooved ones came out. Typical of Winchester. Thanks, Big Larry
