The earliest had a rather unique barrel stamping so those would likely fetch a premium. Mine is a +/- 95% 1960 edition (with the later markings) and I probably paid a bit of a premium for it because of the early date and condition. I also mistakenly thought it had the earlier markings but didn’t pay accordingly. I’ll probably have it for awhile as I’m a 1960 edition myself…but my condition is closer to 35%.

Both are the later WIN. MAG. R.F. caliber marking. I saw the one on Gb this week soar to above 5K due to the W.M.R.F. caliber stamping. I was hoping the 1960 that I am looking had that designation but not so…

Are the prices of the guns you’re considering similar?

Good to hear that pricing on a W.M.R.F. !!! I have one NIB…………. I believe the earliest that 2Bit has recorded.
Why is it that a lot of folks do not post what they paid for their rifles? Are they ashamed? I just bought a nice 1960 M61 22 Magnum for $1,600 out the door.
Not ashamed of that price. Nicest one for the $$ I have seen in a while.
Posting paid values helps others make good decisions on their own purchases. Big Larry
Not ashamed- $1530, not that it’s anyone’s business… but I suppose it may help others in pricing something they want. Never really gave it much consideration. When I want to know what the recent “value” is, I query prices realized on the interwebz.

Why do you say its no ones business? This is a learning forum, and prices paid and full serial numbers are welcomed here. XXX’s are not needed as your purchase was completely legal, so the Gun Police is not invloved. I have no problem stating my purchase price or full serial number. I am not paranoid. Big Larry

Concealing the ser. no. is foolish nonsense. How would some malefactor profit from knowing it?
PS–I despise the airheads who rub white paste, chalk, etc, over the ser. no. Ever tried to remove it?

I see his point. It isn’t anyone’s business but it may help.

That’s just the point. People post all the time wanting to know what a similar gun is worth or just finding out what some folks have paid so they don’t go overboard. Completed auctions tells you nothing. A lot of folks go overboard on auctions. You can get a better feel for values from what people do pay Why do some people try to hide good info? No, it’s not my business and I am getting tired of hearing that. I share and wish some others would do the same. Big Larry

I don’t generally discuss the prices I pay on an open forum for a number of reasons:
1. I really like the gun and paid too much.
2. The big box store didn’t know what they had and I stole it. Someone who lurks here may relay that info back to the big box store and they will learn from their mistake.
3. Sometimes I honestly don’t remember.
4. In grade school show & tell I was taught it was rude to discuss how much something cost or to ask another student about the price.
5. I generally don’t think my finances are anyone’s business but my own. At any given time lurkers outnumber members about seven to one, last time I checked. If you feel like you need to know feel free to PM.

I have been berated for what I paid for a few of my purchases. Not directly to my face, but I got the message. I bought a near mint pre war Model 697 and by the time I paid the ‘Buyers Premium’ and special shipping it was up close to $2,900. Someone on the ‘FORUM’ made the remark ‘why would anyone pay that much’. My only explanation would have to be, “Where you gonna get another one?”. At least the gun got to be pictured on the back cover of “The Winchester Collector” magazine in the “Amoskeag Auction Company Inc.” prices sold for advertisement. I really like the gun! Which seems to be the reason I sometimes ‘pay too much’. Roger B.
I’ve invariably paid “too much” for most of my purchases. But guess what…I have the gun; you don’t. And the gun I paid “too much” for 30 years ago is the one you’ll gladly pay “too much” for today (about 2 or 3 times more than I paid), and will be extremely happy, and feel as though you got a good deal. Paying too much is subjective. Most of the unsolicited commentary comes from jealously. Good luck waiting for the right gun at the right price…chances are you’ll never get what you’re looking for.
Just one man’s humble opinion based upon years of experience.
