Barbara and I will be there. We’ve decided to drive instead of flying. She will tour the museums instead of attending the show with me but we’ll both be at the annual meeting, the reception and the banquet.
Heather has assured me all my raffle tickets are in the hopper. Having meditated on this daily, bending these objects (the tickets) to my will, I’m almost certain to win one of the two Herstal Winchester Model 70 prizes. Against that virtual certainty, I have a small request: That our current President agree to come forward and present the prize to me in the Association’s behalf and be photographed with me while holding it.
I look forward to seeing all of you and hearing Jeff’s lecture Saturday evening. It’s always a pleasure to hear a man who is a master of his subject.

I have no problem comfortably lecturing to a class of 100 students but making a Winchester presentation to a room full of my mentors and peers is a whole different type of pressure. Keep in mind I am a researcher/collector/geek and not normally a public speaker. Hope you enjoy the presentation as there is a LOT of information to cram into 20 minutes. Unfortunately, there is only enough time to whet your appetite for more info.
Looking forward to seeing you in Cody. You will be able to easily find my table, it will be the one with Tim’s Winchester roller skates on it 😉

Hello Everyone. I am excited about coming to the Cody show for the first time. I inherited my father’s 25 long gun Winchester collection last year and plan on selling some of them at the show. A question to throw out to the experts on this forum: I have four 22cal. A model 1890 mfg 1929, a model 1906 mfg 1915, a model 61 mfg 1946, and a model 62a mfg 1950. If you were to keep one of these four 22s for yourselves, which one would you prefer and why. They are all in very fine condition. Thank you. Michael

If I didn’t have to sell them, I’d keep them all… 🙂 Do you have a table? If not, I have four w/ plenty of chairs if you need a place to rest your feet. Last year was my first, I wish I hadn’t waited so long to attend. Welcome to WACA & the forum. There are lots of good people here w/ tremendous knowledge, and with all forums, a few grumpy curmudgeons. Cheers! Ben

Michael, can you post some pix? If they are in fine condition I’d be very slow to sell until you have a really good grip on their relative values.
Together, they make an impressive display of Winchester history and I’d be hard put to sell any of them unless other circumstances dictated it.
If you were determined to sell all but one, my own choice would be whichever was my father’s favorite, the one that made him the happiest to own. Unless you really n prefer another of them.
Assuming they are all in equivalent condition and none of them have special features, sight unseen I would probably choose two to keep, the 1890 and the 61, because the 1890 is the original design and the early postwar 61 is exceedingly elegant and I really like it. That might well change if I could examine all four first!
Be slow to sell until you understand what you’re selling, is my best advice.

My choice would come down to the Model 90 and the Model 61. You did not mention which specific cartridge the Model 90 is chambered for? Being that it is a 1929 production rifle, it is quite possible that it is a 22 Long Rifle which would be the preferred cartridge.

Michael, as others have said here, you have the foundation of a very fine and enviable Winchester 22rf collection with these four rifles. Unless you genuinely need the money, I suggest you keep them at least until your collection interests are a bit more focused. At least take the time and make the effort to determine if they are unmodified, since that will greatly impact their value to other collectors.
If they are modified in any way, they still have full sentimental value to you, so don’t be in a rush to dispose of them.

I plan to be there with a few of my 61 rifles and a few other items. I am selling my 61 collection due to age and the loss of our two boys in the last 18 months.
The 61 22 short only has been sold and the consecutive serial number 61s have been spoken for.
I have not given up collecting Winchesters but only looking for two more Model 70 Super Grades. Looking for a pre 64 Model 70 Super Grade Featherweight in 308 caliber and a pre 64 Model 70 Super Grade Featherweight in 270 caliber. Yes, I know hen’s teeth. With the help of a fine gentleman, I have acquired the 30-06 and got the right floor plate for my 243. THANKS LOU. I am halfway there in acquiring these four rifles. See page 120 in Roger Rule’s ” The Rifleman’s Rifle book.
With Bert’s help this post will be straightened out. Not sure why the picture is not upright. The dummy is on this side.

So sorry to hear of the display being sold off. I really enjoyed seeing it last year. My sincerest condolences on the passing of your sons. I cannot begin to imagine the depth of your loss…

I’ll be bringing a couple of nice 9422’s in addition to my Model 12 display guns. A nice early 9422M and a pretty sweet later XTR. They won’t be on our table but they could easily follow you home. I’ll also have a nice M71 with dies and factory ammo on our table as nothing in Texas needs this much killing and I’m trying to put off my shoulder surgery as long as possible.
Mike
Three days before I head out…As of this morning, my rig was half packed… then I got a call about another estate. I can’t resist… I go and end up filling up the back of my Pilot with a pile of old ammo, dies & brass along with several crates of misc parts & pieces. So tomorrow I have to empty all that out so I can load my display cases… I’m trying to be “intentional” and remember everything I’m supposed to be bringing for people. I just hope I don’t forget something important! JWA & Doug, Mark ~ requested sights are packed. G&H items too. All my lever gun parts as well. R.H. Ruana, Randall, M.S.A. knives galore! I would like to have an empty rig coming home to save on gas.

Bert, I could send you a list…may alleviate anxiety…or add to the anticipation! I will accept gold, silver and even your personal check if you are short of long green. 🙂 BTW: I’m still searching my boxes for a certain item I want to give you… It’s historical in nature…of course of Winchester lineage with lots of inventory totals and sales numbers by the quarter…
