This rifle sold for $1150 at the RIA May 2017 auction and was a standard Short, Long, Long Rifle configuration.  Notice the dark little wood grain pattern on the left side of the wrist of the stock.  You will see it again.

Now here is the same serial number rifle and the same little brown blemish in the wood listed by Mike Bishop on Guns International with an asking price of $3450 and the barrel has been switched out for a .22 LR For Shot Only “Counter Bore” configuration.  All the fake bells and whistles were added.

Peter,

Yes it will.  I have sent a notice.  I never did hear back from Davey Joe on the other octagon barrel LR being offered.  There is just over 1 day left on that gun and no bids at $3895!

Email response from Mike Bishop.  And the listing has been pulled down.  For you Model 61 buyers do make a note of the serial number in case it pops up some place else.

With all these underhanded dealings going on with fake 61’s I don’t think I would buy a “high condition” one online.

Thanks for all the good investigative work Michael!

He pulled the listing immediately from the Guns International site.

Any chance on back-tracking the gun with Mikes help? Where did he get it? Where has it been since the original auction sale? Inquiring minds want to know.

I asked Mike Bishop if he would be willing to shed any light on how he came to be selling the rifle or where it might have been in the 11 months since it sold at RIA and he said no.  So much for concern about his clients I guess.  And here I thought he might be interested in pointing out who was responsible for the fake items being sold and the negative impact it has on the collecting community!!
