Happy New Year and good 22 hunting in 2024. Big Larry
Same to you my friend, but my .22 hunting is over for me, as this summer I finally took possession of the M1922MI I’ve been waiting 3 YRS to be given the “G&H” restyling treatment by the master stockmaker I’m lucky to know; but it was worth the wait!
On the hunt now for a un modified M2. Had several 1922 22’s of all kinds years ago when I collected US Martial Arms. Very hard to find any Springfield 22’s these days. All are reworked M2’s for the most part. Got lucky with my new to me M1922M1 NRA, but I paid the price for it. The scope blocs were incorrect, so $66 to Steve Earl fixed that problem. Lyman Targetspot came with it. Pretty close to period correct. Big Larry

Happy New Year, gentlemen! Looking forward to a new book and hopefully a few old ones. If I made resolutions it would be to get those .22’s out of the safe and shoot them as often as possible!

That IS a problem! Because I can shoot for not more than an hr before my eye-strain becomes intolerable; in fact, after only half an hr, it has become very annoying. Then there’s the fact that I have my “favorite,” and do I wish to spend that hr shooting it, or another that I don’t fancy as much? The “favorite” almost always wins that debate. All I’d need to give the others their share of my time is a home range that would allow me to shoot one for an hr, then go back inside to rest my eyes for an hr or two, after which pause I could give another its fair share of range time.

Clarence-
Thirty minutes is better than nothing, go for it! I took the new kid out for two rounds of trap today. At 45 a bit chilly for a Texas boy but the sun felt good. Next time maybe I bring the right choke tube.

Happy New Year to All!
Went to see an old friend who’s getting up there and having some troubles with his vision. After a nice long Brunch for two old friends we went back to his place and were talking about guns and stuff and he told me that he has no income. I wasn’t surprised as he’s 80 yrs old and unfortunately a lot of people his age or older really didn’t prepare for the future. So I knew I wasn’t leaving there with out some thing as I filled my pockets normally before heading to his hose in the past. So after a bit I walked away with a nice 3rd model 90 Win in .22 Long Caliber and a nice model 36 in 9mm shot. Both in really nice condition and priced right as I know that he was very appreciative to get some Cash in his hand.

Chuck said Then shot the 2 bottom targets.
Looks like about 1-3/4″; respectable, but no trophy. What ammo?
Apparently it’s ammo his 52 doesn’t like very much.

I shoot nothing but Red Box Eley in all my target rifles, benched at 100 yards. If I do my part, 10 rds. can be covered by a dime. I too have a 20X STS. I shoot on my friends 200 yd. range. Nice and quiet. 2 person bench bolted to a cement floor. Rock solid. Good luck to you my friend. Big Larry
As a life-long UW Husky fan, I’ve had a great New Year already, watching the Husky’s beat Texas (sorry Elliot) to win the Suger Bowl… looking forward to next week’s game. Then in three short weeks, the Antique Gunshow in Las Vegas! I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting some new ones at the show. Every day is a bonus….

HNY everyone….one of my resolutions this year is to find a nice slide action .22! Happy hunting!
Buy a Model 1890 or 1906 if money is no object; maybe you can find a beat-up one for under a grand. Otherwise, a Rem Model 12; a better working slide action I’ve never fired.

Should prove to be an interesting quest. Do you have Schwing’s first edition book on the slide action? A bit pricey but it helps sort out all the models and most of the variations.
