OfflineI’ve disassembled my 1938-era M75 Target model for a stock refinishing.
When trying to fathom just HOW the barrel band is supposed to “adjust” barrel tension (downward pull), I cannot figure it out!
The bushing that is inserted from right-to-left in the stock, seems to NOT have any way to secure it.
The tapered screw, likewise slips completely through the bushing . . . AND the two holes in the barrel band, thereby offering NO band tension at all!
So-o-o- . . .
How, exactly does this adjustable tension device work?
It seems the factory merely tightened the screw (as will I) but I see no way this screw “adjusts” ANYTHING?
What am I missing here???

OfflineOK, Gents . . .I think I figured it out . . .
Upon reassembly, I see the two large holes in the bottom of the barrel band, allow the tapered portion of the screw to contact the two holes ONLY at the 6-o’clock position.
Because the barrel band is free to rotate around the barrel, BOTH of the holes in the band will come in contact with the tapered portion of the screw.
Turning this screw clockwise draws the barrel down, into the forend.
My “problem” is solved . . . .PARTIALLY! . . .
Now . . .
How is the bushing retained in the stock? . . . . Press fit only?
