Hi,
As Big Larry stated, that marking was applied by Abercrombie & Fitch. Based on the number your rifle is likely a G6901R Model 69 with 80A peep sight made in early 1948.
Normally, a letter can be obtained from Griffin and Howe for the A&F marked rifles. It will expedite the process if you tell them your rifle is listed in Ledger #10, page 234. There is a whole chapter devoted to the A&F rifles and a chart showing the ledger locations of all the numbers in this book – The Winchester Model 69
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, I actually posted about this as my first post here in 2017! I was trying to post pictures from my new phone and instead of previewing it posted. I may have to pass this on and was going to see if there was interest here before I listed it elsewhere.
It is a G6901R with an 80A peep , I did get your book , it’s outstanding. I’m moving slowly right now but I’ll get more pictures up for your viewing pleasure. Thanks Chris
Perfect, thanks! Looking forward to seeing them.

I got pictures to load but I couldn’t do multiples [email protected] said
Actually, that’s an accomplishment most guests can’t master.
I have 4 Winchester marked magazines, 2 fives and 2 10’s that I got with this. At the end of January this Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and broke my pelvis, I was put back together but not able to work yet so I have to sell a few things to keep the wolves at bay. I do have a 57, 68, 72, 75, and a 52 still but this is the gem.
I had a few inquiries about this so I’ll keep it alive. I am no expert at this so bear with me, there are some indentations in the stock and looking closer it seems it may have been refinished, I do see some sanding scratches. I honestly don’t know the value of the A & F variant, nor was I sure if I should post a price in this forum or the swap forum. It the old story, the seller wants to get the most and the buyer wants to pay the least, I’m happy in the middle where everyone is satisfied.
Here’s more pictures
Hi Chris,
Sorry to hear about your injury, that is a looong recovery time.
Your rifle is very interesting and has a neat documentable history, it will probably get even more attention in the Swap section with an asking price. Based on your photos and visible condition the A&F rifles in your configuration have been selling in the $400 range, at least $100 more if the stock has not been refinished.
When you decide to get rid of your 57 I would be even more interested.

Thanks Jeff for the insight and kind words. I’m getting around pretty well considering, my surgeon did a stellar repair so its not as long a rehab as I thought it would be.
I’ll have to keep the A & F 69a if it’s not as desirable as I thought, it does go with my 20 ga. Rizzini A & F shotgun.
I have had other inquiries above the 57 but it has been drilled and tapped so if it’s not in the collector realm I’d just as soon keep it, we all know how fun they are to shoot. I’ll probably never see another . Chris
Hi Chris,
Make sure you follow-through with all of the prescribed therapy, it makes a big difference in recovery.
The A&F marked Model 69 Junior Target Shooter’s Special seems to be a bit more desirable as they are bringing about $800 with an A&F number.
You are right, the Model 57 is a great shooter, very accurate and well made. The extra holes do affect value but do not make it less accurate in the slightest.
