OfflineAs a reflection of my newfound appreciation of the Winchester 22 rimfire rifles I recently added this one to my collection. Thank you to JWA for his tutelage in this acquisition including his outstanding reference books.

I’m not really sure the 56 date? stamp on the underside of the barrel is indeed a date, being poorly struck, but it is possible being that 1956 was the last year for this practice.
As an aside, in removing the sight hood to clean out the “fuzzies” I discovered the front sight key was broken. It wedges between the front sight hood and the removable sight ramp to hold all the parts firmly in place. I was able to get it re-installed albeit in 2 pieces however I did find a replacement from Classic Firearms & Parts.
The details are outlined perfectly in JWA’s book “The Winchester Model 69, Evolution in Design” on pg. 305.
For those who have not yet put this volume in their library,
it looks like this…

OfflineNice score, Darrin! Looks like a twin to one that hangs around here except yours is a bit nicer. Glad you got the sight issue resolved, guns like ours need shooting!

Thanks Mike, in central Ks we’ve had our share of weather woes as well as you have, albeit in the form of a foot of snow, wind and sub zero temps. We are above freezing today I may take it out for some unofficial exercise.

Darrin-
I still have about 4″ of very slick ice covering the ground from my back porch to my car. We didn’t make it below zero but single digits and a few inches of ice have some government types talking disaster declarations. Finally got above freezing today, haven’t had frozen precip on the ground this long in quite some time. Lots of collapsed structures and impassable roads are having a significant impact on small businesses, including mine. I’ve stayed busy, my 69A is next up for a cleaning. It gets shot a fair bit thanks to that receiver sight and I don’t think it’s been cleaned since I bought it! My club is accessible but the ranges are still covered in ice so I’ll be waiting for your range report!
