In Cedar City, Utah, we have a new Sportsmans Warehouse. A friend called me from there yesterday and told me they had some CCI 22 Longs. I told him to buy all 9 boxes of 100 they had at $10.99 per 100. Today I went back and bought another 1,000 rds. Greedy, yes. Very few folks buy Longs as the Long Rifle is actually cheaper, besides I have a bunch of rifles chambered for it. This ammo has not been available for several years with the 22 shortage.
Now, I can shoot my M1900, M1902, M1906, and most importantly, my Thumb Trigger and M1885 SS Target Rifle. When it warms up, of course. Big Larry
Clarence, having paid collectors $$$ for most of my rifles, I don’t buy junk, I really don’t want to chance it. The LR ammo may fit, but I am sure the rifling was never intended to shoot LR accurately. I doubt pressures are a factor because most of these early rifles would accept 22 XL ammo. I have a large stockpile of 22’s of all kinds. Some for my M52’s and some for my mid priced rifles like my M69’s. My Dad saw to it that every time I visited him in San Diego, he would have another 5,000 rd. case of ammo for me.
22 long ammo is very hard to find, especially in this day and age. I have a M1890 in 22 long and it will not feed 22LR from the tube magazine. I also have a M56 in 22 Short and 22 LR’s will not chamber. I also have a sweet M1885 in 22 short that is pretty much a match rifle, and I would never consider putting anything in that old rifle but 22 shorts.
BTW, they did not have any shorts in stock, so when they do get some, I will hoard up. Not really interested in shooting shorts as it is like shooting a pellet rifle, but I do like having ammo for all my guns.
If you ever get to Cedar City, I would be proud to take you out and do some shooting. I have my own private range and it is open country all around me.

That would be an invite it would be my greatest pleasure to accept, especially if you trusted me enough to shoot your Thumb Trigger model! Sadly, however, unless travel by teleportation (as they did it on Star Trek) is perfected, I’ll never get there, or anywhere else further than a radius of an hour’s drive, because my intolerance for the stress of traveling has now shrunk my radius of movement down to that level; in fact, I haven’t gone further than about 50 miles in over 10 years. But I’m sincerely grateful for the generous offer.
