I’ve had a 1931 M52, for about 50 years.  I’ve used it in the past, for highpower practice, and have recently picked it up again for rimfire silhouette.  Unlike some others, this is a rifle I’ve not studied until now.  My problem is that I cannot find much detailed information on the technical aspects.  This rifle has the adjustable sear, with the small adjustment screw at the back, which can be seen through the bolt hole, when the bolt is removed.  The trigger let-off is beautiful, as crisp as a mid-fall morning.  But, it runs about 5 pounds, by my uncalibrated figuring.  I’d like to get it down to 2.5 pounds, but I would rather not have the trigger/sear stoned if I can avoid it.  Does anyone have any solid information on lightening the trigger on this great rifle?  BTW, the rifle isn’t pristine, but I rate it at 90+%, conservatively.

Have you tried turning the adjustment screw “in”?  If it doesn’t turn easily, would be wise to remove the action from the stock, & apply penetrating oil to the threads, lest you damage the slot if the screw is really stuck, & at the same time lube the top of the sear with super-slick synthetic grease.  You can reduce let-off to the point that closing the bolt will make it fire, but 3 lb is safely feasible, & probably 2.5 lb, which is about the let-off of the 52A I shoot most often.  You won’t know till you try.
