I have a Winchester Model 1906 Standard .22 kit and a Winchester Model 1906 “Expert” Junior Rifle Corps Kit.  The Standard Model kit is the most complete. I think it is missing the cartridge pouch and belt. The Expert Model i believe, is missing the same and possible maintenance screwdriver. Does anyone know for sure what belongs or doesn’t belong in these kits? The Expert serial number is 633,249 its receiver production date is June 1920. The Standard rifle serial number is 738,860. The last Model 06′ serial # is listed as 685,999 in Ned Schwings book ” Winchester Slide-Action Rifles Vol. I. I assume the High serial number of the Standard model was for later cleanup of extra receiver Inventory. I have included pictures of both.

Model 06 s/n 738860 was manufactured in late January 1927.  It was not a “parts clean-up” rifle.  Instead, it was a standard (regular) production rifle manufactured shortly after Winchester merged the serial numbers for the Model 90 and 06.  I recently wrote a detailed article discussing both the late production Model 90 & 06 rifles, and the still later “parts clean-up” rifle that began in February 1933.  The article will be published within the next 6-months in the Winchester Collector magazine (and here on the WACA website).

In regard to your question about the kit contents, I suggest that you contact Gary & Jennifer Gole – Crooked River Trading company.

I am not familiar with the 1906 being used in a Jr. Rifle Corp kit.  I’ve owned kits with the 1902 and 1904… even have extra original cleaning rods for them from a closed hardware store. The wooden gun box with the red Winchester decal is the only .22 Jr. Rifle Corps case I’m familiar with…  I would really like to know if there is any factory information on the 1906 usage?
