I’m looking at a High Wall take down in 22 short. It has a musket barrel but does not have the traditional Lyman peep sight. 116,506 serial. “A” marked reciever.
This seems like an odd configuration. It’s definitely not refinished, appears original.
He says it isn’t a Winder musket, and I believe him, it has ladder rear sight and a simple front post.
Conditon of metal is good, but bluing is mostly gone, has a mottled look. Wood is in very good condition and has an oil finish look. All markings are deep with limited boogered screw heads.
I know enough to know I don’t know much but I know condition is everything….hes willing to “deal”.

What you are looking at is a standard 2nd variation Take Down Winder Musket. The sights on it are factory original. The rear sight is a Krag Model 1901 Wind gauge sight.
I just very recently finished writing an updated & revised article discussing the Single Shot Winder Muskets in great detail. It should be published later this year in the Winchester Collector magazine.

My question is – what would you expect this to sell for? Or how much is it worth?I just got outbid for a 22 Long low wall non-takedown last week at $1600, so not sure if this is worth about that much, more? Kind of frustrating.
The fact that it is a high-wall action and a Take Down adds value to it. The action alone is worth $1,200.

He was asking $1750, but chased me down to let me know he was VERY open to an offer.
i know he’d take $1500 – but i wondered if he’d take $1400…..I’ve got a few hours before he’ll be gone.
at $1500 would you do it? I’d love to find an octagon barrel set for it…..as I’m not a fan of the musket. I’d plan to keep it for 20-25 years then sell it…as long as I break even I’d be happy.
thanks again for the input!

I believe that $1,500 is a reasonable price for that Winder Musket.
