Here are pictures of an 1885 .22 short I just bought.  The bore is nice and shiny with nice rifling.  Its my first 85′ and my first rifle with any case-color on it.   85-1.JPGImage Enlarger85-3.JPGImage Enlarger85-4.JPGImage Enlarger85-5.JPGImage Enlarger85-6.JPGImage Enlarger85-7.JPGImage Enlarger85-2.JPGImage Enlarger

Have seen others as nice as this one on the outside, but most had terrible bores, so a “shiny bore” is exceptional.   (For a .22, I mean, as they tended to be neglected.)

Yes ‘sir I had to pay up for that nice bore also.  Not to terribly much but I’m sure its on the high end of what the gun is worth.  I have always figured the small bore guns during the black powder era, if not taken care of, really went bad pretty quick.  Someone really took care of this gun, inside and out.

Nice looking low-wall.  It should shoot real good for you with standard velocity 22 Short ammo.

Just bought some CCI 22short Match at my local Sportsmans Warehouse. Fired it at 50 yards offhand in my M1873 22 short and most of my shots were in the black. Bore not so nice, but there. Soon, I will test my M1885. As noted earlier, it has 5 special order features including a set trigger and a Swiss buttplate. Bore on it is about 80%, but it should shoot well at 50 yards.   Big Larry

In my opinion that is the kind of case color that looks original for a gun that age and really enhances the the overall look of the rifle.  Nice find.

Congratulations. I have this rifle on my list of must have. Never find a nice bore in the ones I’ve seen.

Yes ‘sir thank yall.  I bought it from a fella that lives just outside of Atlanta.  He deals lots of guns and when he told me its the best bore he has seen in a small bore 85’ in a long time I had to buy it.  I shot it this past weekend and it shot well, pretty accurate.  Thanks for everyone’s comments.
