On the Pirkle’s book, he explains the type of markins after the circa number #200,000 : “22 short”

Which was the caliber marking before circa 200,000 ?

My # 325880 B is marked 22 cal. Short on the elevator, and 22 Short on the round bbl. Big Larry

There isn’t a book that has a good explanation as to the evolution of the 22 markings that I remember. The Gordon book does have good pictures of them with the serial number of the pictured gun. The Stone book did mention it but no detail.
