He we go again. Just received a Private message from a new member(Oct 16/2023) with 0 post advising Jeremy George has a tang sight for sale & contact him at this email. This was the same way a scammer got a couple members here last year and after a quick Google scammer query with his name and email [email protected] my suspicions were confirmed. Beware!!!

I’m glad that I gave in to the little man in my head… Thank you for posting. Just put a stop payment on a Zelle to him… quickly enough that it was successfully stopped! He wasn’t confirmed as a Zelle and I pressed on that. He said to just send it. That put me to alert status and started looking at how long of a member Nolan Kirk was… and I had my answer. Be careful out there.

Glad to help tke466. In hind sight I probably should have posted in the Swap Meet section. Hopefully others who are contacted will still see this post.

Message this morning was: “I never received your money yet… please check and confirm if you are being refunded.”
To which I said:
“Hmm weird. Let me check. I’ve found Zelle to be frustrating at times.
In the meantime, mind passing me a picture of the plate?”
He replied with 3 pictures of a long plate… taken off of an Ebay listing. That listing is for a seller out of TX. A legitimate seller.
Maybe his name is James Niekirk , the guy that my $125,000.00 reproduction Colt Paterson come from a couple years back. I seen His name on the W.A.C.A. site sponsering a new comer, I hope He is not a member.

I was just set up by the same scam by the same people. I always get suspicious when a seller requires payment by venmo. My advice is never pay electronically, if my check isn’t good then I don’t need the product.
Well, if the seller won’t send your purchase until the check clears, which isn’t totally unreasonable when the parties are strangers, what then if you’re defrauded? Never heard of venmo, but with Paypal or a credit card, you have some recourse for reimbursement.

No recourse with PayPal for money transfers to an individual. I learned the hard way!

Good to know, Rick. Every payment dispute I’ve had was for a CC purchase, & the bank made it good. Payment made with a Postal MO affords no better protection than a personal check; sure, you can report a swindle, but the PO will do nothing. COD payments gave the buyer some limited protection, before they were discontinued, but were no guarantee that the buyer received the same item he was expecting.
If you pay with a Bank check the money is removed from your account when the Bank issues the check. You can not stop payment on a Bank check. If lost in the mail you have to wait 60 days to start the process of getting your money back. Most of the time the lost mail gets to you in 60 days. If someone fraudulently cashes your check then it gets messy. If I send a personal check I can stop payment anytime before my bank receives the check.
Scammer Alert on the Forum is a good thing, but scammers aren’t the only way to loose your money. A honest deal for a dishonest gun is more likely to cost you money. T/R

Bank checks (like MOs) are for the protection of the seller ONLY, not the buyer. “Messy” is an understatement–if the check or MO is cashed by a crook, expect no help whatsoever from “the law.” If you know the crook’s true name & residence, you can hire a lawyer, which is usually good money after bad.
it seems a credit card provides significantly better recourse than any other method. I’ve had my credit card hacked and figured it out when I noticed fraudulent charges were being made. One phone call and instantly the credit card company removed the charges from my account.
It’s really best to only deal with people who are, “known” entities – either by you or trusted people you know. I am also highly (HIGHLY) suspicious of an incoming offer from someone I don’t know.

Well, I’d just drive over to his house and kill him. I’ve been in business making muzzleloading guns full time since 1996 and never been screwed over. Except by “friends”.
Who are no longer friends.
