Well, the serial # is 27,748 which makes it a second model. I can’t confirm the caliber as the markings are either worn off or not applied. I strongly believe it is chambered 50-95. A 45 caliber bullet drops down the barrel with no resistance. It will take a chamber cast to confirm. I would rate the bore condition a strong 6 to a weak 7. The rifling is sharp and complete but there is minor pitting throughout. I don’t believe the rear sight is original. The brass button on the butt plate door is missing and the brass alignment guide on the dust cover is broken. Obviously most of the screws have been turned as they are certainly showing improper screwdriver usage. I’m looking for a rough appraisal. Here are some photo’s to help.

I can’t see enough of the dust cover rail to be sure it is a second model. Does the rail have screws? This caliber should be marked somewhere. Only the early 45-75’s weren’t marked. The rear sight elevator is a modern piece for sure. Early elevators had notches that were parallel to the barrel and did not have the thumb piece on the rear. This serial range makes the gun a third model.

Hi Chuck,
The only screw is in the dust cover itself. The one that holds the brass insert in the front. I’m speculating here, the rifle has obviously been taken apart for whatever reason. Possibly for a broken lifter and the replacement wasn’t caliber marked. I’ve used magnification on the barrel and lifter and can’t find a trace of caliber marking. Win 4575 has ledger records stating it’s a 45-60. No reason to think other wise. I will still do a chamber cast to confirm. Thanks for your input!
Best,
Erin
