Hello, I have been collecting Winchester’s for sometime now. I have a few nice Model 70’s and 2 Model 94. I know a little, which is just enough to get into trouble from time to time. I was in a local gun shop the other day. Their was a nice looking Model 94. The serial number date’s it to 1951. What I found unfamiliar was the butt stock. It’s a crescent style. Now I can tell that the wood has been refinished. I just haven’t seen crescent stocks on 50’s Model 94’s.. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Dwight
Dwight,
It is an aftermarket stock. Winchester discontinued using the old style traditional crescent butt plates in 1937 (at the same time the Model 94 Sporting Rifle was discontinued). Additionally, it is not possible to install an original Model 1894/94 Rifle butt stock on a post 1947 production Carbine without modifying the stock upper tang channel.
