Just acquired a 73 in 44WCF with a special order 26” barrel made in 1886. Good bore & nice tiger grain in the butt stock wood. All original sights and in VG condition overall.
I was happy with just the two I already own(38-40 rifle & 44WCF SRC) which nicely displays the gun that won the west, but I couldn’t pass up a special order barrel and in 44WCF. In any event it looks nice to me on the rack.
I suppose a 73 musket might be the new chase ?

Rick,
Fits your collection very nicely. How you going to fit a musket into that case?

I think a hole saw would do the trick.

Nice trio! I can understand not being able to pass up a special order gun with awesome wood and a long barrel. Looking forward to seeing how you complete this foursome, I’m thinking a nice 76 would be right at home there.

But eventually… it will be a ’76, and then after that a ’76 carbine… and after that a ’76 musket…. 😉
Resistance is futile, Rick. Hope you have room for another rack.

Nice gun Rick. I had a 73 with a 26″ barrel too. My wood was a better grade as yours is. I guess they hand picked the wood with the special order barrel?
Chuck – I also like your rifle. That’s my kind of gun. Nice even wear, honest, special (e.g. the barrel is special order and the wood is above average). Well cared for. To me, there is a dimension to a rifle like this that is superior to the $50K high condition pieces we see from the big auction houses and high roller dealers. A very pleasing piece to enjoy.
