OfflinePicked up this model 24. Really enjoy sporting clays and thought this one will maybe improve my game. 1946 vintage, someone refinished the stocks, but they didn’t sand. Blue is mostly there. Bores cleaned up bright Whoever installed the butt pad didn’t cut the stock so I plan to replace it with a correct or reproduction plate. Looking forward to taking it out.

OfflineLooks like fun, how is it choked? Seems Dallas Gun Club used to have a SxS shoot now and then.

OnlineThe late Bob Brister demonstrated the distance advantage of Full is only about 5 yards and is at a disadvantage at moderate ranges. In most instances, Mod serves better and can be made to shoot full choke patterns with hard shot and Grex. [Winchester Super X Double X) and quarter choke [50%] patterns with discount soft shot shells. The most flexible choke.
What Brister proved that has stayed with me is 55 yards is a very long shot with any gauge and choke. Anything longer involves large amounts of luck. Tall tales about 80 yard geese to the contrary notwithstanding. Pattern boards – particularly moving pattern boards – do not lie.
Brister’s Shotgunning: the Art and the Science is out of print but readily found on the used book market. It is easy and fascinating to read. Every shotgunner should study it. Brister was not an armchair theorist, as many know. A champion in every shotgun sport, he was a winning, high dollar international pigeon shooter, probably the ultimate test in shotgunning.
