I finally filled a big, embarrassing hole in my collection by getting my first lever-action rifle, a Winchester 94. After doing some research I decided I wanted a pre-1952 Model 94 in 30 W.C.F.  I found this one on Gunbroker.com made in 1946.

and an M1 Carbine, which is the most accurate of my M1 Carbines.

Once upon a time I had a Winchester M1917 that with NM ammo, would shoot under an inch at 100 yards benched.

You have some nice war guns there, but particularly missing at least one Winchester martially marked shotgun. A few years ago, I was collecting US Martial Arms and I sold most of them off. I still own a 100% correct WIN-13 and a 1943 vintage M97 Trenchgun. One genuine and documented USMC M1903, a Rem. M03-A3, a Inland M1 carbine, a M1A1 Paratrooper, a Colt M1911-A1, and a live Thompson Sub Gun from 1943. A few martially marked 22’s as well.

You can be proud of your service rifles. They are getting very hard to find in unaltered condition, and are bringing top dollar. Thanks for sharing.  Big LarryWIN-13-001.jpgImage EnlargerWIN-13-004.jpgImage EnlargerDSCF0804.JPGImage EnlargerDSCF0784.JPGImage Enlarger

They are all beautiful but that blonde stock’s gotta go!  Is that maple?  Wait, after looking at it for a while, it’s not bad, in fact it’s very interesting.  BK

It is a little fugly. I am quite sure it is not original.  All his rifles are interesting.  Big Larry

It’s a birch stock from the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program). When you order a rifle from the CMP it’s luck of the draw. When the CMP had Winchester M1s for sale several years ago they didn’t have enough serviceable USGI stocks so they shipped some rifles with new birch or sometimes walnut stocks. When I received it the birch stock was stained a bland brown:

I prefer birch to look like birch so I refinished the wood. I went into the details of how I refinished the wood several years ago on another forum https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=9924

Both of my Winchester M1 (Garand) Rifles are unusual in that they both have several Winchester (WRA) parts.

In fact my other Winchester M1 Rifle, the one with the walnut stock, is all Winchester. Winchester M1 Rifle parts characteristically have prominent machining marks. The parts from the other manufacturers have smoother and more finished appearance.

Yeah, my WIN-13 has some parts that appear to be unfinished, and some have the typical punch marks too. My M1 came out of the Center for Military History quite a few years ago. It went to the CMP and was purchased by a friend for his Dad. My friend is a war hero,( Bronze Star), as was his Dad, a (Silver Star recipient), in Okinawa in WW2. I guess they figured to give him a nice rifle and they did. My friend gave me this rifle and all the paperwork several years ago. Minty bore and every part in it is correct. My small collection also had a CMP M1-C, a CMP M1-D, and a USMC Kollmorgan setup. I am no stranger to Garands. Had one in the Marines in 1960.  Thanks, Big Larry

Congrats on filling that void, hope your levergun is as much fun as your milsurps.

Txgunut

nice looking “94 carbine.  Just gotta say that I also have developed a very warm spot in my heart for the m-1 carbine.  I went and picked up a couple that are not original by any means but too me they are one of the “funnest” guns to shoot.

the m-1 carbine in my mind is the first true assault rifle.  I will take it and a 30 shot clip in any zombie apocalypse!

regards

I’m missing a Winchester M1 in my stash.

“When I received it the birch stock was stained a bland brown”.  The same thing happened to me when I purchased my last CMP rifle.  The stock was a funny-looking “walnut” color.  I stripped the stain to refinish and that bright orange birch color jumped out at me.  I tried to tame it down but it’s still orange, not “maple” like yours.  I have some nice black walnut blanks and might restock it someday but, in the meantime, it’s a great shooter.  BK

It’s all good, Mark. Quite honestly I’m trying to avoid milsurps, resources barely sufficient for existing addictions. WinkI will do the DCM thing soon but old Winchesters and clay bird guns are about all I can handle.

Regarding DCM/CMP M1s, I just looked and they are sold out except for rebuilt Field Grades.  Although not cheap, they’re still a deal compared to prices I see at gunshows.  It was bound to happen.  BK

Very nice Model 94!  Just curious as to why a pre-52?

Also love the Service models as well!  You have a very nice collection there.
