I have recently obtained one of my dream guns, a 92 SRC in 44wcf. And at the urging of Bill(Zeb) I took a couple pictures today to post. So here it is. 1926 SRC in 44 wcf.
Tom, that carbine is a beauty. It must have belonged to Sky King and kept stored in an oil-soaked sheepskin case inside the Songbird.[the big radial engined twin ” bamboo bomber”, not the dinky Cessna 310.] Penny might have defended her honor with it once or twice but it never saw a horse. Such fine condition!
The great thing about a late production Model 92 is most or all of the cartridges fired in it were likely loaded with non-corrosive primers. So I’d bet the bore looks as good as the exterior.
Shame New Hampshire isn’t closer to Texas or I’d load some rounds for my Yankee friend. Maybe a recent NYC transplant will bring his loading equipment with him before a new mayor can confiscate it.
You’re not done. We need a range report. And you don’t have a hair on your [chest] if you don’t take a fat spike buck with this carbine before Christmas.
Congratulations, Bud.

OfflineThanks to all for the compliments. As I said I wanted one for a very long time. Finally found one that passed my condition criteria. Yes Ian it was made in 1926, with near to excellent bore. Bill, the range report is that it is spot on at 50 yards with 200 gr JSP’s. As long as my stupid progressive lens work, which they don’t really like open sights anymore. The good news is I have a Lyman tang with screws I could put on it as my glasses work very well with an aperture sight. Think 86 with a 21 Lyman. LOL.
The ammo was a good score I bought well before finding the gun, 200 rounds of brand new R word that I couldn’t pass up the deal on. So I guess you could say maybe they were the seed crop for the raising of the product.
Steve, I know I fell off the 86 wagon, but only briefly. Still always looking for the 45-90 but given the fact of what a 92 in 44wcf is, we could say it is simply a scale model!
And Mike thanks for the shout out for best post of the day. My photography skills are lacking at best. All I have is my phone and I just stick them on the hand rail of my deck looking out in to my woods. Wish I could shoot pictures like Lou and Bob!

Tom –
I have the vague memory that you have another very fine ’92 carbine? A .32-20? And special in some way… maybe pistol grip? I know I remember something!

Congrats on the “new” rifle. Can I please get the serial number so that I can add it into my research? With a #5 Style tang stamp and a forward rear sight dovetail position it should be between 950000 and 962000.
