I went to a local gun show last weekend looking for Winchesters, but came home with this instead…my first Colt SAA–and a first generation to boot! I think I got a heck of a deal for $2,000 and couldn’t pass it up. All numbers matching, even the grips, and the bore is like new. I think I’m in deep sh**. I’ve been diagnosed with an addiction to Winchesters for quite some time, now the Colts seem to have gotten a hold of me. God help me please…

Real nice single action in a great caliber. From the serial number, it was probably made around 1910-1911. I’ll take it of your hands, even though it is a brand-X and not a Winchester.
You’re right about the date. I bought it from a 90 year old vet that fought in the Pacific during WW2. He was a fighter pilot and was actually wearing his leather flight jacket with “Black Cats” written across the back at the show. Very cool guy to talk to and had many stories to tell. Anyway, he said he bought the Colt back in 1982 from the original owner who purchased it new in 1910. The original owner was a rancher in Montana and the only time it saw real use was when he came across an animal that needed to be put down. It was the best condition Colt on his table. Did I do ok on the price?

I think you did fine. That’s an interesting store, especially since I live just south of Missoula, MT.
Thank you. Colts are new territory for me and glad to know I did ok on my first purchase. In the meantime, I found an excellent book for sale on Craigslist called “A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver” by Ron Graham, John Kopec, and Kenneth Moore. Paid $50 for the book but had to drive 40 miles to get it. Have lots of reading and learning ahead of me.
