I just got the deluxe 20″ in the mail this morning, I’m a Happy camper.
I have a weakness for pistol grip Winchesters with no checkering, but, to be semantically correct, I don’t think these are deluxe, but semi deluxe.
Also, while I like the rifle, the sheen and stain of the wood suggests to me it might be refinished—I sure hope I’m wrong! Can you post close up photographs of the wood and wood to metal junctions so we can see for sure?

The shine on the wood is My inferior lighting, It ain’t been re-finished. We’ve had this discussion before ,(deluxe or semi deluxe) and the concensus then was straight grain wood was semi deluxe and xxx wood was deluxe, how ever the letter says “fancy pistol grip etc.” , which I believe is the correct terminoligy.

At one time in the past, I had a very nice M1892 44-40 with a 20″ oct. bbl. Dummy me, traded it off. Spent a few years trying to get it back, to no avail. It was not a movie rifle. Now, the guy that has it, died. I have no idea what happened to it. It was supposed to be in his will for me, but that never happened. Even though I no longer collect Winchesters, I would like to have that short rifle back. Big Larry

Larry, FWIW, I have a short barrel 1892 in .44 WCF. 20″ Octagonal barrel, purchased in Tucson many years ago, like the 1980’s. Fellow I got it from claimed it was a movie rifle, but no proof of that (NOT marked “Stembridge”, or others). While I have mostly gotten out of the model 1892 to concentrate more on my toggle link models, I DO retain it and intend to for some time yet. It is in very nice condition. Don’t recall if it letters or is too new for that. Thus, I feel your pain. Do not think wills are changed to pass a rifle on at demise of a fellow collector, nor notes to that effect to be honored by executors. Tim

Tim. my BIL and I had 50 years together. Problem was we both collected the same thing. In later years he told me his SB M1892 and a super nice M1886 was in his will for me. In turn, I put a couple of mine in trust for him. When he died, nothing was ever told us of his passing by family members. My DIL saw it mentioned on Facebook. To this day, I have no idea what happened to his very nice gun collection, or even where he is buried. I don’t think his wife liked me. Big Larry

There is hope some of your collection can go to friends. When my dad passed I gave away some of his collection to friends. He didn’t ask me to((in fact never gave me instructions for the disposition of anything). I just thought it would be fun and his friends would treasure them so that’s what I did. It wasn’t about money , my three siblings were not a hard sell either, they said do whatever you think dad would like- we’re all in. I made up some neat cards with provenance of the peice and went to their house one evening and presented. Good friends got some good stuff and our families enjoy (respect) each other.

Yess, I began giving some of mine away last year. Friends and relatives that visited all went home with some guns. I had over 200 guns of all types. Down to around 150 now. I even gave my Vet three Winchester rifles. Problem is, I keep buying more. Friend came out from Alabama last year and I gave him my prized 1943 Colt M1911A1 which was real close to mint. I don’t want to die with all these guns. Big Larry
