The serial number tells us that it was manufactured in May 1899.  The pictures show us a standard Model 1894 Take down Sporting Rifle that has been refinished at least once in its lifetime.  The stocks are significantly undersized indicating they were heavily sanded and refinished, and the steel surfaces were polished and reblued.

Well Travis’ welcome to the forum and happy collecting. It looks like ou ’94 was mfg. in 1899. Lokks as though the wood has been sanded as it looks a little shy around the tang area. I’m sure some others will tune in here. Nice to have something handed down in the family.

Welcome to the forum. An old Winchester that was your grandad’s is a great connection with the past.
