Picked up a dandy 1894 rifle in 30 WCF today. Had to trade a 64 standard, a Marlin 375, and some cash to boot, but it is an excellent condition rifle. Octagon barrel, full mag.Serial # 166503. Still has case color on the butt plate, and the screws look unturned. Any ideas on the “real” date of mfg. would be appreciated.
You should join WACA. Sending a check through the mail should be just fine I’d think. $45 for the year, see the membership tab at the top of the website header for more details and options. If you are a member you can also view all of the back issues of The Collector Magazine, among many other benefits. The friends you make are worth it anyway.

I do not know if a non-WACA member can post photos on the forum through photobucket, etc. or not or post a link. Bert, 1873man or someone else might know that.
Glad to hear you found a nice rifle over there! Hope you are still in the woods. I still hand cut, been busy with a lot of other stuff sometimes…but shouldn’t be because the hardwood pulp market is still good!

Brad,
I would like to post some pics, but I’m not a WACA member yet.? Can I join by mail? This rifle is a real beauty.
If you have internet access, you can become a WACA member simply by going to the top of the page, and selecting the Membership option.

Well I did it! I joined WACA. I signed up for something a while back and found myself in a place with 100 strangers and a guy hollering all the time for 9 weeks.
Welcome. Great bunch of people here. The help you get from the experts alone is well worth the cost of membership.

Welcome!
Some of us may be strange but there is very little hollering here
Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your nice 1894.

You will not regret it! As a member, you now have access to all of the old WACA Collector magazines and the articles in them… lots of good reading material!
Thanks for signing up, and have fun.

I’ve followed this site for several years and appreciate the professional responses. I have a lot of questions to ask in the future. Brad, I’m still cutting (a lot less bunching though.)Even broke down and bought a new auto tune 576 XP Husquvarna. Can’t find parts for the older saws anymore.
Glad you signed up!
That looks like a nice big saw Jeff. I use a Stihl 362, maybe not quite enough recovery speed sometimes, but not very heavy to tote around either. I haven’t had to cut much big wood with it. The last two years I’ve cut and bunched in April,May and June until it got dry enough to pick the wood up. Been pretty dry now so I’m caught up.
