OnlineYes, looks like that old rifle needs to go hunting again. I took my deer this past season with an 1894 of similar vintage. I’ll never forget that hunt and that old rifle caused quite a stir in camp. I hope you do take it hunting, do you have a load it likes?

OfflineThat’s a good looking rifle, did you just find that one recently? Like JWA noticed, you have a solid looking fence to use for a rest if needed. Pretty nice out up here this time of year, thanks for posting the pictures and good luck with the syrup.

OfflineThanks, I just got this one a couple weeks ago. It still has decent blue and a little cc left. The bore is still fairly sharp and shiny. I’ve only tried the ultra max 300 grain loads and they grouped 2″ @ 500 yards. Alright it was more like 50 yards. I’m sure it will knock a white tail down. A real pleasure to shoot! Stout fence for a stout Winchester. There’s nothing better than real maple syrup on potato pancakes… With sausage links of course!

OnlineIf you need a good breakfast sausage recipe just let me know. My 45-90 recipe probably won’t cycle thru your 1886 but I do have a Gould mould that was supposedly designed for that rifle.
