Picked this up. Very odd configuration. Nickel trimmed, xxx wood. Reversed rear sight. Original rods in butt.20210525_074820.jpg

Very odd and extremely rare.  Is it in a serial range that can letter?  Would like to see a close-up of the nose cap from the front.  Not doubting that it’s  real, just interested  in  seeing  how  they  made it.

It’s just below the letter range. 118 thousand range. Same configuration gun two #’s away sold a couple years back at Morphys. thumbnail-5.jpeg

Looks  real to me.  However, you’ll  probably find someone  who  calls  it  a fake.

There is one in the Madis book page 66 with a half mag.

Prettiest wood I’ve seen on an 1866. Very nice!

I had one of these half mag 66’s yrs ago that Madis lettered for me. He stated it was his opinion these were employee take outs,at the time mine was one of 3 he had ever seen. Same nickle trim on mine, block had engraving on mine and better wood vs normal. That gun is original ,absolutely is. The end cap was unique and same as one I had..

I don’t think it is a employee take home although I know that has happened with other oddities. I’m 100% confident this was a special order production run of guns. An identical configuration (down to the eyelet sling swivels versus the wide version) gun 2 serial numbers away was sold a few years ago at Morphy’s. Norm Vegley and several others have agreed its an authentic half mag.

Not making a personal opinion on the “employee take out” deal, this is what George put in the letter he wrote for my gun. Sold it years ago and whoever owns it now has that letter. Do you have a link to the gun sold at Morphy’s, i bet it was my gun. Morphy bought a auction house,if memory serves me, which was the one i sold mine years ago.SOme reason can’t recall name right now.. Somewhere in the NorthEast,NH or VT maybe??

Yep,that is not my gun, mine had a crack in the wrist. Interesting to see the realized price, sold mine in early 2000’s for same if not more money at auction. Crazy how some guns are on fire, while others(I argue these BM 66’s are deserving) seem stagnant.

 Nice gun you have here……..
