I have no horse in this race, but I thought that I would let members know what was found, coming to Auction.
Steven, I won’t be bidding on this!
With approximately, less than, 64,000 mfg. This 40-60 Caliber, 28 inch barrel, 3rd. variation, would be a great rifle for some of the newer Winchester Collectors that we’ve been seeing lately. IMO!
Looks like a good honest representation. IMO!

Anthony-
Looks like a good gun for the money if mechanically sound or easily repaired. As you pointed out it may be a good gun for a new collector or an old tightwad like me. Most nice 1876’s are more than I want to spend.

Mike,
I’m in agreement with you, as many newbies aren’t seasoned like many collectors, and need to go through that school of hard knocks, in some aspects.
The very rare and hard to find, wanna be Collector, who is the exception to the rule, and will listen to sound advice from the many seasoned veteran collectors, that frequent this site, are hard to find, and almost non existent, in today’s world.
Hence, my thoughts on pieces like this, and some others that I try to post, not only as an educational tool, but it also reminds some of us other collectors, once again, that the nicer and higher conditioned stuff, is still getting harder to find, and always will be, more desirable, and expensive. IMHO!

Steven,
You are absolutely correct and I am in agreement with you, as in today’s world, some will try to use that, to they’re advantage, and maybe pick something up, they have been wanting, or looking for. The condition on this will hold it back, naturally, but it appears to be a fairly honest looking model 1876, with the exception of the wood having some sort of freshening or refinishing done to it. IMO!

Nice gun for the money if octagon. But until they clear things up, I hope no body bids and gets burnt
I’ve sent them emails in the past, and they don’t seem to correct anything after it’s posted. In many cases it is what it is! Without the letter, and anything telling us more about this rifle, or even better pictures, it will remain speculative. IMO!

This ’76 surely has some wild stories to tell. It has been on some adventures for sure. It’s a shame that with so many pieces like this, their histories have been completely lost to time.
Steve,
The old saying, “If only it could talk”, as many of us have either said or thought!
