OfflineIf you haven’t looked yet you need to. Very honest descriptions pointing out upgrades, restored, and fake guns with very low estimates. I never saw an auction like this before. The honest gun lots are mixed between lots of guns described with problems. Two 1866s that letter with a 38″ barrel, engraved, and described upgraded. Estimated at $2,000-$4,000.
I get the idea of low estimates, getting people interested and the bidding goes on, but this has got my attention. T/R

OfflineI’ve been going through it. Very interesting auction. I see Herrick (Buckstix) is selling off about 300 pieces from his collection. Quite an interesting mix of firearms. Here’s a Model 70 he has:

OfflineI noticed this as well a couple weeks ago when this catalog went live. I have a few bottom feeder bids in 🙂 but I always found Poulin’s descriptions to be pretty fair. Have been happy with the few things I’ve gotten from them. They’re a little slow to ship sometimes but system wise and working with you on transactions, top notch.

OfflineI know that when they sell entire collections there is a good likelihood that some will have problems, I know there are some in my collection! I would think Poulin’s approach would be best in the long run unless they depend on the low information, well capitalized buyer. I’ve come to realize that description writing is an art, practiced by many but mastered by few.

OfflineI have to say…
If you want QUANTITY, It’s there, but looking through many of the Winchesters being offered in this auction, I was very disappointed in the condition of all of them.
At best, unless I missed a few or maybe I should say relative to the 1885s, 1886s, 1892s, 1894s, and 1895s, this auction is for little more than placeholders—fills a spot until something nicer comes along.

OfflineI am also in agreement as I was underwhelmed overall but did manage to find a few interesting items like this oldest known 1894/95 hybrid…

Curious what you guys think of it? Has a bid of $3,000 on it already with a 6 to 10k projection.

In this case, the use of the adjective “oldest known” is pure hyperbole.
All (91) of the identified and documented Model 94/95 hybrid Carbines were manufactured in the year 1928, including the one listed in that auction. Per the PR records, it was manufactured on 1/26/1928. The “youngest known” (last) 94/95 hybrid was manufactured less than 11-months later on 11/12/1928. The vast majority of the 94/95 hybrids were manufactured in June – September of 1928.

So it is in essence a #1 of a 91 production limited edition? 😉

Actually, it is an unknown # of the 1,303 total production.

Got bid up when it went live as 2 bulls locked horns. Someone overpaid but hopefully it is going to a personal collection and a good home but won’t be surprised if we see it on GB shortly!

OfflineWell-written description and explanation of the hybrid, I suspect a fellow WACA member got a nice payday. Well played! I find unusual models and early examples interesting but it’s evident two collectors feel VERY strongly about them.
