Winchester Model 88 trigger issue|Restoration, Repair and Maintenance|Forum|Winchester Collector

I have a Winchester Model 88 serial #108xxx in like new condition. The lever action works fine, but the trigger will not release the hammer. I took it to a gunsmith and he couldn’t fix it. I watched videos on disassembly and assembly. I disassembled and reassembled the rifle myself and the trigger still does not release the hammer. The trigger moves, but the hammer doesn’t release. I disassembled the rifle again, but I can’t find the reason the trigger doesn’t release the hammer.

 Has anybody had this issue? I read an article that says the early model 88’s needed replacement trigger parts, but I don’t know if this is true.

I bought it at an online auction, so returning it is not an option.
