Does anyone know if you can use a Model 88 stock with the half moon recoil block on any caliber. I have a Winchester model 88 in 358 cal, in the 96,000 serial number range, that has a custom stock. I would like to put an original stock on it. Can I use a model 88 stock in any caliber?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I had an 88 with a damaged stock and I found a good stock to replace it.  Based on what I learned during that experience, I believe the actions and stocks are interchangeable.  However, in your case, I don’t  believe you want an early clover leaf style block.  The proper one for a gun in the 98000 serial number range would be the later, rounded style block.

Thank you for your help. I agree that I should find the later model stock.

Mannlicher  stock was not offered from Winchester as a Factory option.  I have seen a few  Model 88s over the years with a Mannlicher stock.  They are pretty neat.  Just not done at the factory.
