Hello Fellas,

Need some info on the tenon , screws secure the forearm cap and forearm to the rifle. Can any more tell me what size the screws are? Need to get a tap and chase the threads on the temon. Need a tap size number . Do the thread go thru the tenon?

You will have to remove the mag tube to run a tap through it. The threads are from each side with a gap where the tube is. From the Winchester 1873 handbook the threads are close to the modern 6-48.

If your gun is in nice condition you need to be careful removing the mag tube.  There is grit under the rings that hold the tube and sometimes the forend cap can also scratch the tube.  A very slow and patient process should be performed to clean the area at each side of the ring and under the rings only moving about 1/8″ at a time.   Soak and clean the exposed areas.  Soak and clean each side of the rings after moving the mag tube.  Keep soaking, moving and cleaning until the entire length of the tube under the rings has been cleaned.  It only takes 1 small piece of grit to scratch the tube it’s entire length.
