Some advice please, I am looking at a Winchester 1895 Russian Contract rifle but it looks ok for its age but I notice if I hold the action firmly and hold the end of barrel there is movement like its loose but at the moment can not take stock off, any suggestions to the problem?

Cheers

I am not as adept as Johnny Carson was with his mentalist tricks, but I would almost bet the musket is made up of various mismatched stocks and metal.  Tim

My advice is to let it be someone else’s problem. The barrel should be tight in the receiver.

I finally was able to take off the top handguard and have a good look , it has all the Winchester markings and proof mark with 7.62mm and Russian acceptance mark but it has movement??? I called a Gunsmith and he possibly thinks its age and unknown  history the barrel to receiver may be corroded creating a bit of give but that still makes me think  its not that any way I’ll drop it off to him and see what the problem is….
