Hello, everyone:

I recently purchased a very nice m1895  deluxe made in about 1906-1907 with shotgun style buttstock. Unfortunately, the buttplate is missing.

The stock is inletted for a rubber buttplate with a spur.

I would like to get a proper buttplate for the gun.

What are my chances of finding a nice original?

In the absence of an original buttplate, can someone recommend a source for a high quality reproduction?

thank you!

In the unlikely event you found a nice original, it’s not likely it would fit exactly right, because they were originally fitted by sanding the plate & stock together; and of course the spur complicates fitting.

If this is the same company I bought a repro grip cap from several years ago, their quality was outstanding:

The picture of the buttplate for the 1887 shotgun is like the one on my 95.  You need one that looks like this but with the dimensions to fit your wood.  If it is just slightly larger the excess can be sanded then polished.  No way to fix a smaller one.
