I recently acquired a Winchester 06. I have tracked it down to 1912 to 1915. Depends where you look. The stock and slide have definitely been altered. Slide could be original but has definitely been restored. The stock has a metal buttplate with a lift up cap in the middle. The stock is hollow behind the cap and also has another hole above it that looks like it would fit a .22 shell. The serial number is stamped on the gun twice. One has a “B” after it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Paul,
The serial number will tell us when (month & year) that your Model 1906 was manufactured. Based on your description, the butt stock is positively not factory original. I cannot provide any comment about the slide handle stock until first seeing some pictures of it.

October 12th, 1916.
The barrel should be marked “MOD 1906”.
You can send pictures to me at – [email protected]
Please include a picture of the stamped markings on the barrel.
