I’ve got a M61 22 S,,L, LR with feeding, ejecting problems, I’ve tried various brands of ammo. Recently, the Winchester 222 brand has been used and still gun has problems. ( SN121472, mfg 1949 )
Before I take it apart ( bad idea for me ), is there a procedure I should go through before seeking a gunsmith ?
There is definitely an ejection failure occasionally, and also a feeding problem where the round is positioned to high by the carriage to enter the barrel.
Any easy answer, our just keep trying other ammo ?
Thanks,
Bill
Hi Bill,
Your feeding and ejecting problems may be two separate issues. The cartridge cut-off gets worn on the 61 and can cause the feed issue you are describing. You can flip them over or lightly peen them as a quick/temporary fix to see if that is the issue. There are sources for aftermarket replacements for them.
Your ejection issue may simply be dirt/crud build-up. That is something you can easily work on. In addition to cleaning the inside of the action, make sure the extractor springs are not gummed-up or broken. If there is still an issue the ejector may be worn or broken. Replacements are available here https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/winchester/rifles-win/61-win
Hope that helps.
