Greetings to the Board, along with apologies if this topic violates or bends any posting protocols.
I have long heard that one of the premier outfits for working on vintage Winchester shotguns has been “Simmons.” And there are plenty of postings on the auction sites for classic Winchester shotguns which state “reblued by Simmons” or “ventilated rib installed by Simmons.”
So now I’m getting my prized Model 1897 Trap Gun ready to send off for some work, but have found two different “Simmons” out there. One is in Olathe, Kansas (with a Facebook page and a dysfunctional “.biz” website), while the other, in Bastrop, LA, is listed on the Winchester listing of “Authorized Repair Centers” (the Olathe Simmons is not on that list). So now I’m getting nervous.
The only previous Model 97 work I had done was done by Wright’s out in Pinckneyville, IL, but they weren’t available (due to health reasons) the last time I checked.
So which Simmons is which?

The full name of the original company was “Simmons Gun Specialties, Inc.” (Which I know from a wonderful Simmons poster I have showing an English Setter asleep in the back seat of a ’40s car.)
If you don’t find that same name, I’d guess it was a different company.
