Does anyone have a suggestion as to what product could be used to fix the chipped away finish on my Model 64 pre-war rifle?  It appears Winchester used a varnish on these stocks not oil finish.  I’m just trying to fix the spots of bare wood to lessen any more damage when taken out hunting in bad weather.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to what product would work to fill in the spots and blend in with the original finish?

Thanks,

Nick

I have used this with a small artist brush to touch up some small scratches and to redo a stock or two. It seems to blend in well, and is very easy to use on small areas as opposed to a lacquer or more permanent finish that will dr on top of the current finish and tend to stick out. For stain I have found(for deeper scratches) modern masters(that’s the brand name) walnut color to do a nice job. The stock is why both products turned out like for a visual. I know people say the formby’s Isn’t as durable as some finish’s, but I think there are trade offs on most product. Hope this helps

Bill,  thanks for the advice.  I will look into this product and try it out.

Stay Well,

Nick
