Does any one know length of the “Factory” sling Winchester put on their rifles of the era? Does any one have a picture (close up) of said sling, particularity of the hardware? Does some one make a reproduction of the sling?

I have a nice 1886 and a set of original swivel hooks that I would like to show off so I am looking for a sling. I have a piece of an original sling so I know it is 1 inch wide , 3/16 inch thick , plain leather and one swivel hook was attached with a black button and slit set up.

Cheers

This is the best I have …. a photo I took a few years ago of a friend’s ’86 with an original sling.

Hi,

That is a neat picture of an Winchester sling, and the buckle. Any bets on how long it will be before someone tries to fake a 100 year old leather sling? Maybe they are now.

win 35-55 and Walter (Wallby),

Thanks for the photo is is the best that I have seen for an old sling. From this photo and the March photo in the WACA Calendar I have a good idea what to look for.

Walter the closest sling I have found is very close to the two photos.  It is from Suzy’s Surplus, Natural Tanned Leather Rifle Sling 58″ L X 15/16 ” W. They make no claim to being other than what they advertise. The sling actually measures 1″ wide (original W).  If anyone is looking for a look a like era period sling this is the closest I found after a bunch of hours looking.

Thank you again,Smile

Cheers Kirk

Not exactly like the originals, but similar, are the brown leather German G-3 slings. Another option I use on shooter grade guns is the older Marlin slings that are simple slide buckle and button closure end.
