 I  have two original Winchester leather straps for the Model 64 Deer Rifle.One is near mint and the other has seen wear.

 

   What is the best way to preserve the leather in these old straps?

I use Pecards Antique Leather Dressing.  Another good one that is similar is Turner Military Leather Dressing.   It’s a slightly harder paste than Pecards.

Whatever you do, don’t use Neatsfoot Oil.

I have an 1894 24″ short rifle with an original Winchester sling.  I too, use Pecards Antique Leather Dressing and am very happy with the results.
