Hey folks, first time here and I must say I wish I had found you a few weeks ago.

I have had this gun since 1980  shot it twice, cleaned it and put it up. (buried in a closet) Being furloughed has given me plenty of time to work on projects and this is one of them.

It’s a serial number 45581, there is no bore stamp on it. On the underside of the barrel at the base there are two small stamps WP and VP having small oval circles around each of them.

The slide action is the 3-hole version and I have to find a new handle, the gun did not have one when I got.

My first intent was to strip it down and send off to re-blue but after seeing so many on the internet that were not re-blued I’m gonna clean it up and keep it natural.  My big question is I have two spots of active rust on the barrel about the size of a dime or smaller. What’s the best course of action? What about the rest of the gun, I don’t want to damage during cleanup? Steel wool or brass?  Any cleaners better than others? On the inside there is very little corrosion and I have taken it down completely because I was going to have it re-blued.

Thanks in advance

The product I recommend is Kroil. Apply it to the rusted spots, let it sit overnight, and then use mine mesh copper wool wetted with Kroil to gently scrub the rust & crud off the barrel and the rest of the steel parts on the gun. I recommend pure acetone (used outdoors or in a well ventilated work area) to degrease and clean the steel… do not use it on the stocks.

For a new stock I would try Boyd’s. Homestead may have a used one.
