I acquired my first 92 bout 10 months ago. It’s a .32 cal #2398. Took it out for an ops check and it double fed. It has been at my smith’s ever since because he cannot get the correct cartridge stop since the first year guns had different parts. Wondering if someone could enlighten me as to the differences and hopefully point me in the direction of the first year 92 parts tree. I would surely appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

Bob,
Not familiar with a variance of 1892 parts from first year vs. later. If I understand, when you go to operate the lever, there are 2 cartridges that enter onto the carrier? Trying to understand what you mean by double-feed. On the back of the carrier there will be an integral cartridge stop only allowing 1 cartridge to enter onto the carrier before the carrier lifts the cartridge with the action of the lever, before the bolt pushes the cartridge into the chamber.
The cartridge guides for 25-20 and 32-20 are different from the large caliber 38-40 and 44-40 (as is also the carrier, bolt, ejector, lever). Below is an image of the carrier and cartridge guides for small caliber (top) and large caliber (bottom).
If you can post photos of both sides of the inside of the receiver and the carrier, and bolt face, or show what the double-feed looks like, that may help to understand whats happening.

I appreciate your help Chris. It’s been almost a year since I tried to fire it, so my memory is not clear on what happened. I just know it jammed and I took it to my gunsmith, and I haven’t seen it since. I loaded three cartridges through the loading port. Racked the lever down, and it would not go up since there was a cartridge under the carrier.
Much more recently, I had an 1881 Marlin double feed, so I might be confusing the two.

If your getting a cartridge on top of the carrier and one is sliding in below the carrier when the carrier is lifted, the issue is 1) the cartridge guide spring (left cartridge guide) is broke or missing and the cartridge stop is not being engaged to stop the cartridge allowing it to enter below the carrier, or 2) the left cartridge guide stop is missing or 3) the left cartridge guide assembly is not the correct one (large caliber cartridge guide).
Below is a photo of the cartridge stop bearing against the cartridge. Arrow pointing to the cartridge stop.
Left cartridge guide – Cartridge stop.
Cartridge stop spring
My guess is the cartridge stop spring is either broken or missing. If it is the spring, I believe the cartridge stop spring for both large caliber and small caliber cartridge guides are the same size and are interchangeable. You may be able to find one with a quick search online. Not sure if there are reproductions out there.
