I came across a bare 4 digit S/N receiver. I’ve been gradually finding parts to put it all together and I was lucky enough to find an early hammer, but some of the spur checkering is worn. Anyone out there that could rework it? My backup plan is to find an engraver. I considered a carbide checkering tool but these eyes aren’t what they used to be and its a 32 line pattern.

Good morning,

The early hammer variation with the “widows peak” detail was used until the early SN 50000 Model 1892’s which corresponds to 1896 production.  If it is in real bad shape you could probably find an original replacement hammer.
