So now that i have my model 66 i would like to go through and clean up the dirt and grime that i’m sure is in the receiver. I have no desire to clean or polish the outside just the mechanics on the inside. Should i do this or not?

If i do, is there anything i should look out for or shouldn’t do?   I don’t want to ruin the fit of the side plates to the receiver.  So i am preceding with the utmost caution and asking questions first!!

I’d just wipe it down….

Clean the bore good. If fired with black powder and mercuric primers this can prove corrosive. Then again, if this was the case, and the barrel was not cleaned since after all these decades, cleaning the barrel cannot remedy the corrosion that would have developed.

ALWAYS a good idea to clean the bore, nonetheless…
