I have a couple Winchester model 6601 rifles (Centennial 66) new in the boxes and I’ve noticed the Brass surfaces are getting discolored. Looking at it it almost looks like they were sprayed with some kind of protective coating from the factory and it is coming off or discolored in areas on the brass. Is there any way to clean this coating off and maybe reapply something to protect the brass in the future without changing the overall value of these rifles? I’ll try to upload some pictures later today.

Doing some research on the internet it appears these rifles receivers were 24k gold plated inside and out and the butt plates were brass plated but I wasn’t able to find any info on how to clean this receiver anywhere.

If the receivers were plated in 24k gold they should not tarnish.

I don’t think the discoloration is the Gold plating itself but rather the protective coating that looks like might have been used over the gold plating for surface protection.
