Could someone share some insight on a replacement barrel for a 1894 32-40? I would like to know if they need any fitting (lathe work etc.) and where is the best place to purchase one from.

   Thanks for any input!

Mike,

I would talk to Mr. Mike Hunter (Mike Hunter Restorations) who frequents this forum occasionally. He is quite talented and should be able to build you one with the correct period specs and markings.

Mike,

I have an early 1900s Winchester take down rifle in .32 Winchester Special. In Ohio I can hunt deer with a 38-55 but not the .32 Win. Special. I sent my barrel take down assembly here for an octagonal barrel in 38-55 with blueing.

Hope to get it in April.

This is one of many options.

Good Luck!

Jim,

I am curious. Why in Ohio, can’t  you hunt deer with a 32 Winchester Special? That caliber and 30 WCF have taken more deer over the last 100 years, than any caliber.

Two years ago the Ohio Division of Wildlife agreed to change from only shotgun slugs & muzzle loaders  to certain straight walled cartridges of .357 caliber or larger. Prior to this these cartridges could be used in handguns but not rifles.  The 30-30 & .32 Win would be excellent deer cartridges however they are below the .357 min caliber and both are bottle neck cartridges. Some day Ohio will make these changes but for now only approved cartridges that are straight walled .357 caliber of larger. I will use a 38-55 Winchester next hunting season.

Jim,

Good luck hunting this year. The libs just keep chipping away.
