Nice job. I’d leave the wood as is. Doesn’t look bad at all. Holes can be welded up, but I don’t know what you mean by having the receiver re-cased.

The front sight on it is a Marbles Improved front sight.

Roy,

As oakridge alluded to, the receiver frame was originally blued verus case color finished. The hammer and lever were case color hardened though.

Thanks for that info Bert. The receiver looks like it has traces of case color, but it just might be age?

Could this rifle have been special ordered with case color?

No, it could not have been special ordered with case color. Winchester discontinued the case color option in August of 1901.
