OfflineSo this new to me ‘94 has a compass in the top of the butt stock. It also has the remnants of a set of sling swivels from long ago. I know there’s several options to repair the wood but I’d like to listen to some experience from y’all. As a disclaimer this rifle will be in the survey and I don’t plan on it ever leaving my family if I raise my kids right. So accu glass, filler, or inlet sling swivels like an RMCP rifle?
Thanks,

OfflineIf you think you really need to “fix” it? You may be able to find sling swivels that hide the holes.
I’d leave the compass as is. The other holes could be repaired but never hidden. I’d cut a rectangular hole and insert a new piece of wood. The hard part is finding the right pieces of new wood to match the grain of the stock. I’d experiment with stains to get the right color and then add finish. The repairs will show but may look better than whats there now.

OfflineI’m in agreement with Chuck, as back in the day, (1950’s-1960’s), guy’s would put those compasses in their stocks as many, we’re Military Veterans, and found it very handy, instead of digging through their pocket for it. My gunsmith father in law, installed many for guys, and that’s what he told me as it sure made sense to me!
